Citrix Celebrates 10 Years of XenServer

This month, Citrix announced the 10th anniversary of the first release of XenServer, or as it was known then, XenEnterprise. Quadric also celebrates 10 years of XenServer as a company of innovators who have been huge fans of this platform since its inception.

Now the most popular Citrix platform, XenServer has evolved quite a bit over the years. Quadric Software has enjoyed evolving with XenServer every step of the way and remains a proud supporter of the Xen platform.

James Bulpin, Head of Technology for XenServer, talked about the latest version of XenServer in a recent blog post: “Our latest release, XenServer 7, is our best yet, with a number of new innovations in graphics and security, significant enhancements to performance, and internal updates to pave the way for even more cool stuff in the future.”

The team of XenServer experts at Quadric Software have been enthusiasts since “Burbank.” And the Alike backup solution has supported every version, from XenServer 5.5 “George” to XenServer 7.0 “Dundee.” Alike is now one of the only enterprise solutions to support XenServer 7.

The XenServer Foundation

Quadric was founded in 2008 (then known as Quorumsoft Inc.) by a team of Software Engineers and entrepreneurs who wanted to contribute to the open source XenServer community by delivering an exceptional backup and disaster recovery solution.

In the same way that XenServer offers organizations of all sizes access to enterprise virtualization technology, Quadric Software aspired to offer these same businesses enterprise storage innovations, all at a reasonable price point.

Alike was developed as a complete BDR solution for XenServer, providing an easy to use interface, enterprise features, and flexibility. Co-founder and CTO, Max Ekstrom explains how flexibility is baked into the Quadric ethos: “So many backup vendors end up with a fixed innovation agenda because of preexisting vendor or hardware loyalties. We wanted to cut our own path.”

In 2010, Alike was verified as Citrix Ready, which is part of a program designed to help customers identify third-party solutions that are highly compatible with Citrix products. Quadric continues to maintain Alike’s Citrix Ready certification through rigorous testing
