What’s New in Citrix Hypervisor 8.0?

Citrix Hypervisor (formerly Citrix XenServer) is a Current Release (CR). Current Release versions of XenServer are designed to provide new features to users as quickly as possible. For customers more focused on long-term stability, you may want to stick with the LTSR (currently 7.1).

Citrix Hypervisor is available in three editions:

• Premium Edition (formerly Enterprise)
• Standard Edition
• Express Edition (formerly Free Edition)

Alike and Citrix Hypervisor 8.0

We are pleased to announce that Alike v6 (A2) has been tested to be 100% compatible with Citrix Hypervisor 8.0. As always, we ensure that Alike fully supports each new release of XenServer through collaborating with Citrix. We have been Citrix Ready certified since 2010.  As XenServer experts, we take pride in offering the #1 backup solution for XenServer, or should we Citrix Hypervisor.

Major Changes

Note: All Citrix Hypervisor 8.0 features are available to all licensed Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (formerly XenApp and XenDesktop) customers.

Dom0 has been updated in 8.0

• Kernel version: Linux 4.19
• Xen hypervisor version: 4.11
• Control domain operating system version: CentOS 7.5

Also note that dom0’s memory requirements/allocation have changed.

VDIs larger than 2TB

Finally it is possible to have VDIs larger than 2TB.  This is only available on the “Premium Edition”, and requires use of the new GFS2 SR.

Beyond those major updates, a few smaller changes are worth noting.

The following guest templates are now supported by Citrix Hypervisor 8.0:

• CentOS 7.6
• Oracle Linux 7.6
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6
• Scientific Linux 7.6
• CentOS 6.10
• Oracle Linux 6.10
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.10
• Scientific Linux 6.10
• Windows Server 2019
